ACE® ANTIOXIDANT COMPLEX

...providing important protection from the damaging effects of free radical oxidation*

What is an antioxidant? An antioxidant is any substance which protects us from free radicals - tiny particles which cause damaging chemical chain reactions in the body. Replenishing and maintaining the supply of antioxidants gives us protection against common health conditions.

Features and Benefits

  • High potency antioxidant nutrients Beta Carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Selenium.

  • In a natural base of Nature’s Life Greens™ concentrate with 25 natural whole foods.

Research supporting the need for Doctor Formulated ACE®

  • If humans need similar amounts of vitamin C as animals synthesize, on a weight comparison basis, humans would require 3,000 to 18,000mg each day* (Linus Pauling, Med Sci Res, 1991, 19:398)

  • Average American diet only contains about 1400 IU of beta carotene (RDA, 1989)

  • The average American consumes about 50% of the USRDA of vitamin E (RDA, 1989)

  • Many doctors take antioxidants (Fam Prac News, 3-10-94) while advising publicly against them

Ingredient Highlights

Beta Carotene

  • Beta Carotene is a very potent useful singlet oxygen scavenger since it is not destroyed in the process; one molecule of beta carotene can quench up to 1,000 molecules of singlet oxygen* (Ann NY Acad Sci, 1970, 171:139048)

  • Beta Carotene also protects cell membranes from free radical damage even at low concentrations of oxygen* (JNCI, 1982, 69(1):205-10; Science, 1984, 224:569-73)

Vitamin E

  • The need for vitamin E increases as consumption of unsaturated fat increases; for each half gram of Omega 3 or Omega 6 fatty acids you need about 1 IU of vitamin E* (Manual of Nutritional Therapeutics, Little, Brown & Co., Boston; 1984; Present Knowledge in Nutrition, ILSI, 1990)

  • Vitamin E is found in every cell membrane and extra vitamin E is stored in fat tissues* (Manual of Nutritional Therapeutics, Little, Brown & Co., Boston; 1984)

Vitamin C

  • Vitamin C increases iron absorption and also helps prevent iron’s oxidation into a free radical*

  • Vitamin C’s antioxidant activity helps protect lungs against air pollution damage* (Doctor’s Vitamin & Mineral Encyclopedia, Simon & Schuster, 1990)
  • A recent double blind study compared the absorption of ascorbic acid, ascorbic acid with bioflavonoids and Ester C™ Ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid with bioflavonoids were as good as or better than Ester C™; at no point was Ester C™ proved superior (JADA, 1994, 94 (7):779-81).

Selenium

  • When selenium levels are adequate, vitamin E is spared for use elsewhere* (Adv Exp Med Biol, 1990; 262 145-58)

  • Selenium is required for the activity of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase and thus has indirect antioxidant effects (60 FR 67190, December 28, 1995; Modern Nutrition in Health and Disease, pp 242-51, Lea & Febiger, Philadelphia, 1994)

In a natural base of Rose Hips Powder and Nature’s Life Greens™ - our proprietary blend of 25 garden vegetables and herbs, microalgae, sea vegetables and sprouts.
